The Kenyan government now has upto September to supply the international criminal court at the Hague with a clear 12 month roadmap for the prosecution of post election violence offenders. Failure to deliver this roadmap, alongside a report on the status of investigations into crimes committed during the period, critical evidence and a guarantee of the safety of witnesses, will lead to the international criminal court taking up the prosecutions. The deal was reached during a meeting of Kenya’s delegation to the Icc with Icc prosecutor Louis Moreno Ocampo. The Icc is, however, categorical that it would not waste any time in taking up Kenya’s case should parliament fail to urgently enact necessary legislation to facilitate the prosecutions.

In the twisted reality of politics, the terms friend and foe do not really exist. It’s mostly allies and competitors. This is the reason why they that backed tinga to the hilt are shaky, they that backed Baba Jimmy appear confused, and they who were to back Baba Muasya are no longer so committed. Now the talk is about the coming of a new generation of leaders and those caught up in the excitement do not see that it is old wine in new skins… it makes for interesting watching and brightens the prospects for the future as regards political developments. Newshot stays faithful to the political cause but it is somehow confused by talk of illness from unlikely quarters. Here is Muraya Kariuki for the rest of the story.
